Common Alternator & Starter Motor part faults
Parts replacement and repair
-
Solenoid If you hear a clicking noise coming from the engine when trying to start the vehicle this could be a faulty solenoid. Listen carefully to it as a good impression over the phone to us will help with an initial over the phone diagnostic.
Solenoid -
Regulator If the alternator is not changing your battery properly this will lead to a battery slowly loosing it's charge - ultimately leading to a completely flat battery. We often find that this could be a faulty regulator or the brushes need replacing. Both these parts effect the charging of the alternator.
Regulator -
Bearings Worn bearings can cause an alternator to be very noisy when it's running. This can range from high pitch whistles to a more grinding or rumbling noise coming from the engine.
Bearings -
Bushes Worn bushes in a starter motor can cause the starter motor to turn over very slowly which would prevent you starting your vehicle properly.
Bushes -
Brushes If your brushes are worn down in your starter motor this could make a clicking sound and cause your starter motor to turn over "lazy". This is a very common fault.
